App Store Grows Up: Introduces Automatic Updates for Apps in iOS 7

App Store Grows Up: Introduces Automatic Updates for Apps in iOS 7
Derek DeLaCruz

The App Store was not forgotten during WWDC 2013. Apple announced during their event that the App Store will now update applications automatically in iOS 7. This is not an earth shacking announcement or feature but it is very important of iOS developers and users.

Apple prides themselves about being simple and making it easy on their users. However, Apple is late to the party of allowing users to automatically update their applications. At least we are now at the party.

When iOS 7 starts to roll out, users will have one less thing to worry about, updating their applications. No actions will need to be taken to complete the tedious task. No longer will you have to open the App Store, go to Updates, select an Application, and manually select it to update. With iOS 7, updating applications becomes a thing of the past allowing for a simple experience.

This is great news for developers who suffer from app fragmentation and helps users that are less tech savvy worry less about updating application that would otherwise sit on your home screen out of date. Everyone on each end of the App Store should love this update. Apple shows that getting their users on the most current iOS version is one of their top priorities so it is safe to say they will get the vast majority of them to iOS 7 once it rolls out this Fall.  So expect more major changes coming next quarter, while developers have a sneak preview starting today.
